Norfolk to get Bus Improvement Plan progress report after councillors push for scrutiny

Norfolk councillors have called for a dedicated report on progress against the county's Bus Improvement Plan, to be brought to a future committee meeting. They also requested a highways performance review covering the first ten months of the current administration, due in March 2027.

Norfolk County Council's Infrastructure and Development Select Committee has requested a formal report on how the county's Bus Improvement Plan is delivering for passengers, with the item to be added to the committee's forward work programme.

Councillors also asked for a highways performance report to come to the March 2027 meeting, covering the first ten months of the current administration's record on roads.

The moves signal growing appetite among elected members to hold the executive to account on two issues — bus services and road maintenance — that affect large numbers of Norfolk residents on a daily basis.

The Bus Improvement Plan sets out how the county intends to make bus travel more reliable, frequent and attractive. No date was fixed for the scrutiny session, but councillors made clear they wanted it scheduled at an upcoming meeting.

The committee also agreed that an update on Norfolk's Local Transport Plan (LTP) and a flooding preparedness report should both come before the committee in the future, following a similar request discussed earlier in the meeting.

The decisions were made as part of the committee's review of its forward work programme at its meeting on 10 September 2026 at County Hall, Norwich.
