Norfolk plans flooding and transport scrutiny sessions for 2027

Norfolk County Council's Infrastructure and Development Select Committee has agreed to schedule a series of new scrutiny sessions, including reviews of the Local Transport Plan, flooding preparedness, and bus service improvements. The committee also requested Anglian Water return in early 2027 to face further questions on drought and flood planning.

The committee voted to add a flooding preparedness report and an update on Norfolk's Local Transport Plan (LTP) to its future meeting schedule, signalling that both issues are priorities for councillors heading into 2027.

Members also agreed to request a dedicated report on progress against Norfolk's Bus Improvement Plan at a future meeting, reflecting ongoing concerns about the county's public transport provision.

A highways performance report covering the first ten months of the current administration has been scheduled for the March 2027 meeting, giving councillors a formal opportunity to assess how the council's roads programme is performing under new leadership.

Separately, the committee formally requested that Anglian Water return for a session in early 2027 focused specifically on flooding issues and longer-term drought planning. The request follows a lengthy scrutiny session at the September meeting in which members repeatedly pressed the water company on its preparedness for extreme weather.

Cllr Karl Catchpole chaired the meeting, at which Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Cllr Tom Dickerson was also present.

The decisions set out a busy scrutiny calendar for the committee in the months ahead, with water resilience, active travel, and public transport all expected to feature prominently.
