The Transport for Norwich Steering Group will hold no further meetings, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Cllr Tom Dickerson confirmed at the August cabinet meeting.

The group was set up in September 2023 to replace the Transport for Norwich Advisory Committee, which had been open to the public and media. Critics raised concerns at the time that the switch to private meetings reduced transparency over major road decisions affecting Norwich.

Cllr Tom Ludson asked at the meeting when the Steering Group would return to being a public meeting. Dickerson replied that after reviewing its purpose, he concluded the group "serves no purpose" and will be wound up entirely.

Dickerson said scrapping the meetings would free up councillor and officer time to focus on "delivery on the ground rather than on committees."

The Steering Group last met in private in February 2026. Its abolition means decisions on Norwich transport schemes — including projects such as the Norwich Western Link, which is currently undergoing an option assessment — will be scrutinised through other council processes rather than a dedicated forum.

The Norwich Western Link remains part of the Department for Transport's Major Road Network programme following confirmation received in March 2026. The council hopes to consult publicly on options for the scheme as early as 2027.
