CQC inspection report to get full scrutiny at July council committee meeting

Norfolk County Council's Adult Social Care and Public Health Select Committee has agreed to schedule a detailed examination of a Care Quality Commission inspection report for its July 2026 meeting, after members felt they had not yet had a proper opportunity to question officers about its findings.

Members of Norfolk County Council's Adult Social Care and Public Health Select Committee have voted to add a dedicated item to their July 2026 agenda to examine a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report in detail.

The decision came after frustration was expressed at the 11 March 2026 meeting that the committee had not been given a full opportunity to scrutinise the report's findings. One member noted they had raised the issue at Cabinet in January 2026 and been told a report would come to the March committee meeting, but this had not happened.

Chair Cllr Shelagh Gurney explained that she had previously requested an urgent verbal update on the CQC report at the January meeting, as she felt the timeline of scheduled meetings meant waiting would not be appropriate.

Vice Chair Cllr Stuart Clancy emphasised the importance of giving the committee a proper future opportunity to analyse the report and its findings in depth.

The committee agreed to formally add the item to its July 2026 Forward Work Programme.
